Current orthopaedic surgical techniques evolve based on experience and research. With orthopaedic procedures being performed in one of every three surgical cases at USC University Hospital and LAC+USC Medical Center, clinical research in the department has produced leaders in the field of orthopaedics in all of its specialties

With six research laboratories and five affiliated hospitals and a diversified patient population, the department has allocated over 5,000 square feet of dedicated research space devoted to the advancement of orthopaedics in the areas of biomechanics, bone and joint infections, microsurgery, bone molecular biology, and gait analysis.

Drawing upon the strengths of its affiliated institutions, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine provides the best in patient care and education in a variety of settings, including a private 284-bed teaching hospital and a Level 1 trauma center, which houses the largest and busiest trauma and burn centers in the county.
