The Department of Pathology offers a program leading to the Master of Science degree in Experimental and Molecular Pathology. The two-year M.S. program provides training in the latest technologies and concepts of biomedical research and experimental pathology.

The program prepares M.S. graduates for:

  • Advanced research staff or technician positions in biotechnology firms, academic institutions and health departments/government
  • Teaching positions at the community college level
  • Further doctoral or medical (M.D.) studies

The program offers a thesis option and an examination option. Each student’s program will be tailored to suit individual needs and background.

Program Requirements
  • Master’s students must complete at least 34 units of graduate courses.
  • Thesis-option students are required to enroll in a Master’s Thesis course, do original research and submit a written thesis.
  • Examination-option students must enroll in a Master’s Examination preparatory course and pass the examination.

Course work pertinent to the program

The Masters program will use existing courses offered by the Department of Pathology. A total of at least 34 units are required. At the end of each academic year all students' coursework progress will be reviewed by the Graduate Committee.
