Cardiology
The Division of Cardiology continues a process of evolving into sub-sub
specialists areas, serving as a high-level referral center for
other cardiac centers and physicians. During 2001, the 100th
thoracic transplant was performed at CHLA. With continued
maturation of the division,
the emphasis in services has shifted to fetal diagnosis of
heart disease, interventional cardiac catheterization procedures
and advanced non-invasive
imaging methods, such as MRI. The Division of Cardiology
members have given plenary sessions talks at all major cardiology
meetings during 2001. Members of the division are very influential
at a national level as they have been active in formulation
of medical standards for
practice and guidelines in several areas.
