The programs and services provided at MCA are supported by a number of partnerships and collaborations within USC and beyond. These linkages, training programs, and referral services help to ensure that MCA patients receive the highest levels of care and have sustained access to the many services available to them throughout Los Angeles County.
USC Interdisciplinary Collaborations
Through collaborations among several school and departments within the Keck School of Medicine, a full spectrum of care is provided for our patients at MCA. Primary and subspecialty medical care are combined with research to provide state of the art management, involving multiple departments in the School of Medicine, as well as the Schools of Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Social Work. This multidisciplinary network of providers and collaborators has enabled MCA to develop a truly unique and comprehensive model for patient care.
Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center
Visiting Providers Program at MCA
MCA, in collaboration with the Pacific AIDS Education Center (PAETC), conducts training programs for visiting providers from South Africa. This is a four-week training which consists of lectures, grand rounds, and shadowing practitioners in the MCA clinic. The objectives of the training are to:
1. Become familiar with the clinic’s “one-stop” model for treating families infected with and/or affected by HIV. Meet and shadow various members of the clinic’s team, including pediatricians, obstetricians, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, physicians assistants, social workers, health educators, pharmacologists, researchers, and case managers.
2. Increase knowledge of antiretroviral drugs, combination therapies and therapeutic drug monitoring.
3. Review research protocols currently utilized in clinic and methods of obtaining research and clinic funding.
4. Gain comprehensive knowledge and experience in the prevention of perinatal transmission.
5. Gain greater insight into the concept of HIV as a chronic disease.
6. Attend various HIV/AIDS related clinics at 5P21, Women and Children’s and General Hospitals.
7. Participate in discussions about reducing stigma and fear while encouraging prevention, education and risk-reduction.
8. Get involved in and build relationships with the MCA community.

LA County Community Partners
Through our community partnerships, MCA hopes to assist families, children, and individuals in making optimal use of existing resources and opportunities to sustain and enhance their health. An emphasis on social services with strong ties to community organizations has resulted in outreach links that have been critical to retention and adherence to medical care and clinical studies at MCA. MCA works to provide advocacy and linkages to services that will encourage patients to successfully utilize the many resources available to them throughout Los Angeles County.
