COMMITMENT TO RESEARCH

Clinical research is an integral part of MCA’s mission as a health clinic providing HIV and Infectious Disease care. Since the Center’s founding, research has contributed to advances in the understanding and care of HIV infection that allow providers to maintain patient health and prevent further infection.

Research being conducted at MCA contributes to advances in medicine that will better enable our communities to fight infectious disease epidemics both locally and worldwide. Through research and grants, MCA is able to afford patients a high level of service that might otherwise be unavailable to them. Our protocols provide patients with new medications and potentially beneficial therapies, while developing risk reduction and treatment adherence skills.

When conducting or participating in research studies, MCA aims to ensure that potential benefits far exceed risks, and that enrolled participants are closely monitored to further minimize risk. MCA strives to adhere to the highest ethical standards in considering protocols, consenting participants and enrolling them into studies. Research performed at MCA is carefully supervised by the Institutional Review Board of LAC + USC Medical Center as well as the Office for Protection from Research Risk.
