With the division’s long-standing tradition of academic
excellence and the recent developments aimed at expanding
the division, it is the goal of all faculty members and the
neonatal support staff that we will remain dedicated to providing
continuing education and training. The Neonatal
Fellowship Program involves some of the core aspects of
the division’s academic activities. As for the training
of pediatric residents, bedside interactive teaching and small-session
didactics during the residents’ NICU rotations provide
opportunities not only to learn about the field of neonatology,
but also about normal and abnormal newborn conditions of interest
to the general pediatrician. In addition, at each host site’s
NICU, ongoing education and training for neonatal nurse practitioners,
registered nurses, respiratory therapists and ECMO
specialists are offered on a regular basis.
The neonatal faculty and NICU staff at the various hospitals
within the USC Division of Neonatal Medicine are also dedicated
to support the educational needs of parents
of babies who are admitted to our units. Thus, besides
traditional means of communicating to parents the difficult
concepts concerning their sick babies’ medical problems,
this website aims to be an important tool at providing useful
educational materials and resources for parents.
Also very important to the educational goals of the Division
is the Neonatal
Intranet (username/password required).
