The Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatric Residency is a
four year program designed to prepare the resident for certification
by both the American Board of Pediatrics and the American
Board of Internal Medicine. There are 6 resident positions
for each of the four years. The resident rotates between
pediatrics and medicine every three months. One month each
year is allocated for vacation.

is every fourth night. The schedule provides for 4 days per
28 days free from patient care duties.

Interns and residents are on call every fourth night and
interns are limited to a maximum of five admissions in a
twenty-four hour period. House officers not on call work
from 7 am to 4 pm on weekdays and until 1 pm on weekends
or when post call. All house officers receive, on average,
one weekend day off per week.
Combined Internal Medicine – Pediatric
Clinics
The resident is assigned to continuity clinic one-half
day per week. There are separate Internal Medicine and
Pediatric Continuity Clinics so that the resident will alternate
between
the two continuity clinics on an every other week basis.

The medicine-pediatric residents also have the
opportunity to participate in a one-month block Ambulatory
experience to broaden their primary care skills.
The Ambulatory
Geriatric Medicine experience includes a
curriculum in: cognitive
training, audiometry, incontinence, sexual
dysfunction, Parkinson's
Disease, menopause, osteoporosis, PET scanning,
rheumatology, occupational therapy, pharmacology,
nursing home
care and home care visits. Senior residents
may elect to
participate in a Procedure Block Rotation
designed to improve their
office-based procedural and test interpretation
skills including flexible
sigmoidoscopy, pulmonary function testing
and exercise stress testing
