Full-time Certified Physician Assistant needed for a solo, private Internal Medicine practice.  Physician Assistant will manage, oversee and participate in the care of patients under the supervision of the Medical Director or designee.  The Physician Assistant will perform initial evaluations, obtain medical histories, perform comprehensive exams, treat minor injuries, coordinate and participate in treatment plans by ordering appropriate diagnostic studies and prescribing medication, monitor patient progress and document in an electronic medical record system.  Assist physician with review and documentation of all diagnostic and specialist consult reports.

Qualifications:
Board of Registration of Physician Assistants. Demonstrated analytical abilities and strong interpretative skills for integrating information from the patient history, physical exam, and
diagnostic data to be able to formulate a differential diagnosis and subsequent treatment plans for primary care patients in both elective and emergent situations. Experience and Spanish speaking a plus.  Evidence of continued education and professional development.  This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work as part of a team.

As a Guard Physician Assistant, you'll receive a Medical Specialist Corps commission in the Army National Guard Medical Department (AMEDD).  You will be recognized as both a military officer and a highly skilled medical professional.  Maintain your practice while serving one weekend a month, two weeks a year.

Under supervision of the Site Principal Investigator, the incumbents will run an outpatient care management project for patients that have had a recent stroke. They will run individual and group clinics, and coordinate the delivery of stroke prevention care by following care protocols and helping patients access the recommend services. The project is a research trial of a stroke risk factor control intervention at four LA County Medical Centers. The project will involve approximately 100-120 intervention patients over two years at LAC+USC and Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center.  Full time position is available at LAC+USC and Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center.

Responsibilities will include:   

1. Running group clinics that provide patients with educational materials about stroke warning signs, modifiable risk factors, available resources, medication goals and adverse effects.
2. Running individual clinics.
3. Helping patients to use self management tools.
4. Using an electronic registry to coordinate patient care.
5. Following up with patients over the telephone.
6. Following care protocols to address patient blood pressure, lipid control, exercise, and smoking behaviors.

Job Qualifications:                                                                                          

1. Knowledge of care/case management.
2. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to plan, develop, and execute policies and procedures for the improvement of patient care efficiency and effectiveness
3. Ability to work independently  
4. Demonstrated proficient knowledge of personal computers, Internet, email systems, MS skills (including MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).  
5. Bilingual, English/Spanish preferred
6. Experience with stroke or cardiovascular patients preferred.

Training and Experience:
A current California Physician Assistant license or
A current active license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing and a license to practice as a Registered Nurse and a certificate to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
