Frank D. Gilliland , M.D., Ph.D.

Professor
Director, Division of Environmental Health

Frank Gilliland is a Professor of Preventive Medicine and Director of the Division of Environmental Health. Dr. Gilliland directs the Southern California Environmental Health Sciences Center, a NIEHS-supported center based at the University of Southern California, including faculty members from both UCLA and USC, and the NIEHS/EPA-supported Children's Environmental Health Center. He is a leading investigator in air pollution research, respiratory health and cancer epidemiology, and gene-environment interactions, and he has been the principal investigator for numerous epidemiological investigations. Dr. Gilliland's primary research contributions at USC have focused on investigating genetic, dietary, and other susceptibility factors in environmental and occupational lung disease and breast cancer. These efforts have provided new insights into the effects of radon progeny exposure and on the susceptibility to adverse respiratory effects of air pollution.

Research Interests

Gene-environment interactions, susceptibility to environmental exposures including air pollution, environmental contributions to children' s respiratory health, breast cancer and lung cancer
