Admissions Requirements Checklist

A Bachelor's degree and minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; official transcripts from each accredited college or university attended

*Please note: USC alumni and current students are not required to submit USC transcripts.


A minimum Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score of 1000 (verbal/quantitative combined; general non- subject exam only). Applicants who have not taken the GRE, may submit scores for the following exams as substitution:


A minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation (at least one letter must be academic, no specific format required)


A Statement of Purpose of approximately 2-3 pages addressing the following questions:

  • Why are you interested in pursuing the MPH Degree?
  • How will an MPH Degree affect or enhance your career aspirations and goals?

A Curriculum vitae (C.V.) or resume

Note: Curricula vitae (C.V.) and resumes are documents that provide summaries of one's qualifications; however, a C.V. typically includes more information and is similar to a career biography. Curriculum vitae means "course of life" in Latin. The plural form is Curricula vitae.

International students must also submit the following documents:

Official transcripts indicating the award of all degrees with the title and date conferred in the student's native language and an exact translation into English of each document


Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). TOEFL scores are required of international applicants students whose native language is not English. The minimum TOEFL requirements are listed below:

  • Internet-based exam score of 100 (applicants must score no less than 20 points per section)
  • Computer-based exam score of 250

Note: 1) The TOEFL is not required for international students who have earned a Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university. 2) Records of TOEFL scores are purged after 5 years. Please visit the Ecucational Testing Service (ETS) online for TOEFL exam information.


A Statement for Financing Studies at USC showing proof of the ability to pay all tuition and living expenses.

Application Checklist

1 Submit an online Graduate Admission Application.
(Please complete this before submitting any other application materials).
  • Application fee: $85.00 for all students (both domestic and international)

Please note: If you need to send additional materials via a courier service such as DHL or FedEx—please use the following address instead:

2 Upload your Statement of Purpose directly to the Statement of Purpose & Supporting Documents section of the online Graduate Admission Application. Cover letters and publications may also be uploaded in this section as additional supporting documents.

3 Upload your C.V. or resume at the Employment Information section of the online Graduate Admission Application.

Applicants may arrange for their letters of recommendation to be submitted by their recommenders online (see instructions at the Recommendations Section of the online Graduate Admission Application). Applicants may also arrange to have hard-copies of their letters of recommendation to be mailed to the Master of Public Health Program Office (see mailing address below). Mailed letters of recommendation must be received by our office in sealed envelopes with the initials or name of the recommender written across the envelope seal. Letters of recommendation sent via the mail should be addressed to the MPH Program Admissions Committee and may be accepted after the application deadlines. Recommenders may also send references directly to the USC Master of Public Health Program Office.

Mail transcripts to:

Applicants may arrange for transcripts to be mailed to USC from their respective colleges and universities.

Forward GRE and TOEFL scores to USC via the Educational Testing Service (ETS) using institution code: 4852 (a department code is not applicable). Original copies or photocopies of test scores may also be sent to the above address. If you are submitting MCAT scores in lieu of the GRE, please download your report of scores from the MCAT website. A report of scores will also provide an exam verification code. Please forward to the MPH Program Office via fax to Oralia Gonzales at 626-457-6699 or via email as a scanned document to oraliago@usc.edu.

Complete the online MPH Supplemental Application in your e-mail which will be sent to you after completing the Graduate Admission Application.

International students only: Statement for Financing Studies at USC. Please complete and fax this document to the USC Graduate & International Admissions Office to 213-821-3725. Scanned PDF files of financial statements may also be emailed to usci20@usc.edu.

APPLYING

The admissions process for the MPH Program is conducted on a rolling basis. Applicants are notified via email regarding their application status. Notification regarding admissions status is generally available within four weeks after completed applications have been submitted to the MPH Program Admissions Committee.

Re-application Policy: Applicants may reapply to the program one time only after an initial application has been denied.

PREREQUISITES


There are no prerequisites required for all tracks.

Effective Summer 2008, the program will not be accepting application for the Nutrition Track.
