The MPH faculty as members of the Department of Preventive Medicine have been widely recognized for the excellence of their scientific contributions, teaching and leadership roles. They have been active at the frontiers of medicine and public health while maintaining focus on clinically relevant and international questions of health. Their interests and initiative have guided the department from the start, helping to develop a critical mass of outstanding investigators in key areas. Faculty have been well-rewarded, receiving National Institutes of Health program project awards for research on cancer causes and smoking prevention, and have established four national research centers at the USC Keck School of Medicine. The Department of Preventive Medicine at USC is ranked #1 in the National Institute of Health (NIH) funding among all departments nationally.
