Doctoral Students

The department offers limited graduate assistantships (teaching and research) to qualified Ph.D. students enrolled in biostatistics, epidemiology and molecular epidemiology programs. Research experience, computing skills and English proficiency must be assessed prior to consideration of teaching awards. Assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis, and include both tuition remission and a stipend. Students must be engaged in full-time study and maintain good academic standing. Graduate fellowships are also available on a university-wide competitive basis.

Research assistantships provide invaluable opportunity to gain experience in:

  • clinical trial design, conduct and analysis;
  • descriptive, analytic or molecular epidemiology;
  • statistical genetics;
  • statistical methodology.

Student activities include data management, statistical analysis, manuscript preparation, proposal development, and statistical consulting.

The graduate programs in biostatistics, epidemiology and molecular epidemiology have also assisted students in obtaining University and external pre-doctoral fellowships, as well as NIH Research Supplement for Underrepresented Minority awards.
