The Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research engages in research and training to promote health and prevent disease throughout the lifespan, especially during youth.
We focus on encouraging lifestyle changes at the individual and family levels, and social and environmental changes at the community level. Addressing social, cultural, economic, genetic and other factors, we seek to understand the mechanisms of health and disease and thereby develop more effective health interventions. Its an approach that spans many disciplines because the issue of health is so complex.
IPR carries out its research and training not only in California but in Hawaii, China and other locations worldwide. IPRs Transdisciplinary Tobacco Use Research Center conducts longitudinal studies of adolescent smokers and nonsmokers in the U.S. and Wuhan, China. We recently expanded our research throughout China with the China Seven Cities Study.
