The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences of the Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Medical Center offers the ACGME-approved residency training program in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. This graduate education program combines the academic qualities of a medical school-based department with the clinical resources of a large publicly-funded medical center. This combination affords components invaluable for excellence in graduate education in psychiatry.

In this program the resident will encounter patients with a wide variety of psychiatric disorders who come from every portion of the socio-cultural spectrum. Further, no major field of modern psychiatry is left unrepresented by our full-time faculty and our very active voluntary faculty. Taken together, the wide variety of clinical experiences and the exposure to a diversity of clinical interventions and theoretical persuasions assure the residents of an opportunity to gain competence in the clinical management and understanding of psychiatric disorders in childhood, adolescence and families. Additional enrichment also occurs from resident participation in medical student education, particularly at the clerkship level. Research opportunities exist for interested residents.
