Residency Program
The Department of Radiation Oncology offers a 4-year program. The training is currently divided into 42 months of clinical experience and 6 months of approved research or intensive clinical experience. Most of the time will be spent within the USC Department of Radiation Oncology through regular rotations in the LAC-USC Department of Radiation Oncology and the Division of Radiation Oncology at the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Six months of approved clinical selective are also offered including a mandatory 2 months at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, with the remaining 4 months to be chosen from Pathology, Medical Oncology, Physics-Dosimetry, Radiology, and other clinical subspecialties. Electives must be approved by the Training Director.
If the research option is chosen, the project must be of at least 3 months duration, approved by the Chairman of the Department and carried to completion prior to the graduation. The research effort must be acceptable for presentation at a local, regional or national radiation oncology meeting resulting in a publication. Interested residents are encouraged to develop their research ideas early through interactions with both the clinical and basic research faculty.
The curriculum conforms to the requirements stipulated by the Residency Review Committee for Radiation Oncology of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
