The Department of Surgery is dedicated to providing quality patient care and advanced educational programs, and to conducting innovative research that will advance the future of surgical practice. The department is comprised of 10 divisions and offers a prominent surgical residency program.

Keck School surgeons develop new technology to treat gastroesophageal reflux »
A new device to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is now in the second phase of clinical trials, in which the Keck School participates as well as serves as a training center for other institutions.

Starnes named chair of expanded Department of Surgery »
Vaughn Starnes oversees an expanded department, consisting of the departments of Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Colorectal Surgery. His appointment became effective Dec. 1, 2008.

The Art of Technology »
A new video highlights the CyberKnife, technology that allows USC surgeons to treat tumors that would otherwise be considered inoperable. Many patients who have undergone the procedure would not be alive today without it. Watch a grateful man beat cancer after he is treated by Dr. Parvesh Kumar.
