Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in American men. The greatest risk factor is age: by age 50, about 25% of men have cancer cells within the prostate, and each year thereafter the risk goes up. A diagnosis of prostate cancer is alarming, but this cancer is often slow-growing, taking many years to cause problems (in fact, in some patients, it never causes any problems at all). If the cancer is detected early, you have a good chance for successful treatment.
