About Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among men in the U.S., but men who are battling the disease have more reason for optimism than ever before. Better screening, new drugs and procedures, and groundbreaking clinical trials now promise many patients better outcomes with fewer side effects. The first step is to really understand your situation and the options available to you.
Your Treatment Options
Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in American men. The greatest risk factor is age: by age 50, about 25% of men have cancer cells within the prostate, and each year thereafter the risk goes up. A diagnosis of prostate cancer is alarming, but this cancer is often slow-growing, taking many years to cause problems (in fact, in some patients, it never causes any problems at all). If the cancer is detected early, you have a good chance for successful treatment.

The Prostate Center at USC is a leading treatment center for prostate cancer, other prostate conditions and diseases, and management of side effects related to prostate disease.

On September 25, 2005, The Prostate Center at USC's Dr. Penson appeared on The Group Room®'s Prostate Cancer Awareness Show.
