Students in good academic standing in the
senior year in schools of medicine accredited by the AAMC/AMA
Liaison Committee on Medical Education (US and Canada
only) and accredited schools of osteopathic medicine
(US and Canada only) may apply for clinical
clerkships at the Keck School of Medicine of the University
of Southern California for a maximum of eight weeks.
The general online
application form is to be to be used for all clerkships.
YOU MUST HAVE INTERNET EXPLORER AND ADOBE ACROBAT
READER TO ACCESS THE APPLICATION. The form provides
for endorsement by the appropriate official at your medical
school, stating that you are in good standing. Please fillout
the online application, save it, and a PDF document will be
generated. Please print this form, sign and send, with a current
medical school transcript and a non-refundable application
processing fee of $70 (make checks payable to Keck School
of Medicine-USC). Malpractice insurance coverage is required
of all students (not available through USC). Any application
received without all documents and application fee will not
be processed. All arrangements for scheduling your clerkship
will be handled by the Visiting Clerkship Coordinator, Amy
Lloyd, Office of Student Affairs. Please allow 8-10 weeks
for processing. You are obligated not to telephone/write
to the clerkship faculty directly---they are busy with patient
care commitments. The Office
of Student Affairs is the appropriate communication channel,
as designated by the Dean.
If approved for a clerkship at Keck, each
student is then required to complete a health
clearance form and an immunization
record form. The forms must be faxed to Student Health
upon receiving notice of approval. Visiting students commencing
clerkships at the Keck School of Medicine at the University
of Southern California will be charged a $30 student health
service fee payable to the USC Student Health Service at the
time of clerkship.
The clerkships are scheduled at the Los Angeles
County+USC Medical Center. Clerkships are offered
beginning every Monday throughout the year unless otherwise
noted on the rotation
list.
If offered an elective clerkship, you are
obligated to make a firm commitment to accept the rotation
and not withdraw except in extreme emergency (in which case
please notify us immediately).
Applications will be accepted no sooner than
six months in advance. If your school requires that you plan
your program more than six months in advance, we will be unable
to accommodate your request. Please remember that
the application process takes 8-10 weeks so please apply 2-3
months in advance.
Please note that Keck School of Medicine
is unable to provide or arrange for housing, board or travel
expenses. No stipend is provided during this clerkship. Although
we do not offer formal housing placement, you may email us
at medstuaf@usc.edu
with "visiting housing" in the subject. We occasionally
know of nearby housing options.
Thank you for your interest in training at
