The Keck School Admissions Committee selects the most-qualified applicants to join the Schools M.D. program. The Admissions Committee is committed to recruiting a diverse group of accomplished and promising students to its M.D. programs through its unique admissions process, which has earned the School recognition as a Model Medical School from the American Medical Student Association.
Competition for the M.D. program is keen: Each year there
are many more qualified candidates than there are positions
available. For example, more than 6,000 individuals applied
for the 168 positions in the 2006 entering class.
Undergraduate students interested in attending medical school need to begin planning early. Course requirements must be met and the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) must be taken well before the application process begins. In general, applications must be received between June 1 and November 1 for admission to medical school in August of the following year.
The B.A./M.D. and Early Decision programs provide additional
options for those interested in earning medical degrees.
