Training Programs
The LAC+USC Medical Center offers residency-training programs
47 programs for postgraduate physicians GY1-GY7. These training
programs receive accreditation by the Accreditation Council
for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) of the American Medical
Association.
Each program has written goals and objectives that identify the educational outcomes expected for the resident. The curriculum emphasizes clinical rounds, bedside teaching and direct supervision in the outpatient setting. Didactic sessions, journal clubs, clinical-pathological conferences, evidenced-based literature reviews, research conferences and individual reading supplement direct clinical care and focus on achieving excellence in each of the six ACGME required general competencies.
GY-1 training programs begin on June 24 of each year, except for Pathology (July 1) and selected Psychiatry GY-1s (July 1)
Resident rotation assignments are scheduled by the Departments that offer the training. Assignment to wards and call schedules are arranged via the department to which a resident is assigned.
Information regarding the training programs of specific residencies, the number of vacancies and applications for residency appointment is distributed by the individual departments.
