Alcohol consumption is the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States and is also one of the leading risk factors for major health problems in other developed and developing countries. To address this global challenge, the Southern California Research Center for ALPD & Cirrhosis considered the International Symposium on ALPD & Cirrhosis as the most effective means to stimulate new and integrated approaches in scientific research and global collaboration among various countries.
The International Symposium on ALPD & Cirrhosis is also important in addressing the significance of synergism between alcohol and other risk factors common in contemporary societites such as obesities and diabetes in producing serious pathologic consequences.
