| Regulatory
Committees
With oversight from USC Office of Compliance and the Keck
School Office of Scientific Affairs, multiple internal regulatory
committees ensure that all research conforms to the highest
standards of ethics, compassion and professional responsibility.
Researchers must comply with the latest government and university
guidelines for the protection of human and animal research
subjects, scientific conduct and statements of conflict of
interest. Some of these committees offer education and training
for researchers and students.
Institutional
Animal Care & Use Committee »
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) reviews
research projects involving animal subjects to assure appropriate
and responsible use by the USC research community. In addition,
the committee reviews research protocols to ensure compliance
with federal and university guidelines.
HSC
Institutional Review Board »
The primary purpose of the Health Sciences Campus Institutional
Review Board (HSCIRB) is to protect human research subjects.
The IRB conducts initial and ongoing reviews of projects and
approves all research involving human subjects at the Keck
School and affiliated campus facilities. Through its administrative
support office, the IRB also provides ongoing education for
researchers.
USC
Office of Compliance »
The USC compliance program is intended to demonstrate the
institutions commitment to comply with all applicable
laws and regulations, detect and correct compliance violations
promptly and eliminate misconduct and other wrongdoing.
Scientific
Conduct Committee »
The university research environment encourages scientific
inquiry, protects academic freedom and discourages conduct
that deviates from acceptable norms, in all levels of research.
The Keck School's Office of Scientific Affairs has oversight
responsibility for research conduct and arranges for the Scientific
Conduct Committee to evaluate allegations of deviant conduct
and determine, after a preliminary analysis, if allegations
have merit.
