The Norris Medical Library, located in the center of the
Health Sciences Campus, serves all campus students, faculty
and staff. The 37,600 square foot library houses nearly 50,000
books, 120,000 journal volumes and 1,000 multimedia and software
programs. The library subscribes to more than 2,000 biomedical
professional journals and approximately 900 online journals.
The library has special collections in the history of medicine,
American Indian ethnopharmacology, and far west medicine.
Key services provided by the Norris Library include:
- Ovid, an online collection of databases (including MEDLINE),
with a web-based interface and links to many full-text articles
from major journals;
- HELIX (Health Libraries Information Exchange), the USC
Health Sciences Libraries online catalog;
- Norris Medical Library web site;
- Information management workshops, medical informatics
seminars and other educational programs;
- Learning resources, including a pelvic and breast exam
teaching laboratory and microcomputer laboratory and classroom;
- Photocopy service including electronic delivery to the
desktop;
- Docline document delivery to health professionals; and
- Publications, including a quarterly library newsletter
and an annual list of journal holdings.
