FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

How far in advance do I have to schedule an international rotation?

You should start scheduling it at least 3 months in advance and submit the appropriate paperwork to the Office of Student Affairs at least 6 weeks in advance.

What forms do I have to submit to the Office of Student Affairs prior to departure?

A petition signed by your faculty adviser, a confirmation from the host institution or preceptor, a signed liability release form, evidence of SOS insurance.

Where do I purchase the SOS insurance?

You may purchase it online at the following website: internationalsos.com.

Do I have to submit an evaluation form upon completion of the rotation?

Yes. The preceptor must fill out and sign an evaluation form. The form may be faxed to the Office of Student Affairs at 323-442-2663 or may be delivered to the office (KAM 100 B) when you return.

If you recieved funding from USC, you are required to provide a report (preferbly powerpoint presentation) to the Office of Global Health.

Do I receive credit for international rotations?

Yes, if you do it during your Yr III or Yr IV, you may receive elective credit.

How do I get funding for international rotations?

Each student must obtain their own funding for international rotations, however there are several grant and fellowship opportunities to consider. Go to the Grant and Fellowships section for some ideas.

How do I find information on international rotations?

This website is a good start. Give serious consideration as to what you want to learn from an international rotation and the region of the world you’d like to the work in. Search online for various interesting programs, then contact Student Affairs and we’ll assist further.
