Students take an active part in the vibrant research life of the Keck School of Medicine of USC through enrollment in one of the many degree granting educational programs in the health sciences.
Educational programs are distinguished by their faculty. The Keck School has long been home to outstanding research leaders, including cancer epidemiologists Brian E. Henderson and Malcolm C. Pike, and ophthalmologist Stephen J. Ryan – all members of the prestigious Institute of Medicine of the National Academies – cancer molecular biologist Peter A. Jones, winner of the 2009 Prize for Basic Cancer Research from the American Association for Cancer Research and the Kirk A. and Dorothy P. Landon Foundation, cancer molecular biologist Michael R. Stallcup, and physiologist and diabetes/ obesity expert Richard N. Bergman.
Coincident with the Keck School’s transformation, the health sciences educational programs are moving to the next level of excellence. Recently recruited research leaders add incrementally to the school’s academic excellence, including neuroscientist and autism expert Pat Levitt, pathologist and antimicrobial peptide expert Michael E. Selsted, epidemiologist and global health expert Jonathan Samet (also an Institute of Medicine member), microbiologist and infectious disease expert Jae U. Jung, and cell biologist and stem cell expert Martin Pera.
The Division of Health Sciences Education in the Office of Research Advancement develops and administers all degree-granting educational programs in the health sciences for the Keck School of Medicine. The office promotes the education of graduate students at the Keck School of Medicine with the goals of encouraging graduate students, fostering biomedical research, and creating an environment in which the initiation and growth of interdisciplinary research can flourish.
All doctoral level graduate programs offered by the Keck School of Medicine are jointly administered through the USC Graduate School. The Graduate School centralizes the admissions, administration and general policy of all graduate programs at USC. Keck School graduate degree programs conform to or exceed the minimum standards set by the Graduate School.
Requirements for graduate degrees and course offerings are described in detail in the University Catalogue, which may be viewed on the website. Graduate Assistant awards may be available through individual departments.
For full-time Keck graduate students, many administrative matters – including registration and fee payments – can be handled on the Health Sciences Campus. The Graduate School has satellite offices located in the Keith Administration Building (KAM), room 110. The Cashier’s office is located in the Seaver Residence Hall lobby. |
