The FRC reviews and makes recommendations to the Dean on the recruitment of any faculty member, whether external or internal, who will be entering the tenure track of the Keck School of Medicine, except for department chairs and institute directors. The review occurs at two steps: (Step 1) initiation of the recruitment review; (Step 2) the final candidate review. The purpose of this two tiered reviews are to help assure that the recruiting Department or Institute identifies the highest quality faculty members who will fit into the overall environment of the School and that the positions are advertized to the widest possible population.
The committee also evaluates all bridge funding requests made by faculty members as supported by their chairs and makes a prioritized list per established guidelines of recommendations to the Dean.
The FRC meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 4:00 pm, unless other arrangements are made.
The FRC is co-chaired by a senior basic science department faculty member and a senior clinical department faculty member. The co-chairs are selected by the dean based on their strong records of research achievement and experience in faculty mentoring.
FRC committee membership is comprised of senior faculty members with strong records of research achievement. Both basic science departments and clinical departments are represented.
The FRC and the Office of Faculty Affairs have coordinated efforts to simplify the process of FRC review and hiring of tenured and tenure-track faculty. The following forms should be used and process followed for all tenured and tenure-track faculty recruitment. This does not apply for clinical and research track faculty recruitments. This FR1-TT Form along with the Faculty Pre-Recruitment Form and the Gender and Ethnicity Form cover information that both the FRC and Office of Faculty Affairs will need for recruitment.
