Program Initiatives

Following the direction of the National Institutes of Health, the Keck School is developing initiatives that build multidisciplinary collaboration among students and faculty from schools across USC.  Leadership is focusing on opportunities that leverage unique strengths of the university.

HST@USC

This Initiative is a collaborative venture between the Keck School of Medicine and the top ranked Viterbi School of Engineering. The goal is to develop a cross-university program in Health Sciences & Technology (HST), integrating science, medicine, and engineering to solve problems in human health.

HST@USC is being developed under the direction of an Executive Committee comprised of the deans and research deans of the Keck School and Viterbi School.

Clinical & Translational Science Institute

This Initiative promotes the translation of medical knowledge developed in the laboratory to clinical research, and in the application of that knowledge to the treatment of human patients, working with the community at large.

The CTSI reports to the Vice-Provost for Research, but the Keck School is coordinating this effort. The CTSI Director is Thomas A. Buchanan, M.D., Associate Dean for Clinical Research.

Institute for Genetic Medicine

This initiative is a transformation of what was previously a small institute that functioned as a department into a comprehensive program that coordinates genetics and “omics” research, facilities, and resources across the Keck School of Medicine

IGM reports to the Office of Research Advancement. The IGM director is M. Elizabeth Fini, Ph.D.
