Research development and management at the Keck School is organized on a matrix structure with many indirect reporting lines.
M. Elizabeth Fini, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research and Thomas A. Buchanan, M.D., Associate Dean for Clinical Research serve on the Dean’s senior staff, which is the Keck School’s leadership team.
Dr. Fini provides management support to the Dean’s Office. She also head’s the Keck School’s Office of Research Advancement (ORA). The ORA is organized into three functional areas: research programs, research administration, and health sciences education. Clinical research is separate, but is coordinated by the ORA.
Dr. Buchanan’s major role is to head USC’s Clinical & Translational Science Institute initiative. The CTSI reports to the USC Vice-Provost for Research Advancement, but is coordinated by the Keck School.
