The Board of Overseers of the Keck School of Medicine of USC serves as an advisory group to the Keck School leadership.
The boards top priority is helping the school leadership develop and implement a plan to become one of the top 10 medical schools in the nation. The board focuses on whether the school is well organized in its plan and whether resources are being appropriately allocated, so that the school can accomplish its goals. The board has assisted in the development of a business plan to support the Schools strategic plan.
The Overseers meet four times per year to hear updates on the Schools strategic plan, learn about key programs and pose questions and raise issues to Dean Puliafito and President Sample.
Dr. Simon Ramo, a member of the W.M. Keck Foundation Board and founder and the "R" in the TRW Corporation, organized the Keck School board in 1999. Ramo, along with his wife, USC Trustee Virginia Ramo, were the founding co-chairs of the Board of Overseers.
"Si went after the top Los Angeles business leaders who had been successful in business management," says David Lee, Ph.D., an original member of the board and co-founder and managing general partner of Clarity Partners. "These leaders, along with USC President Steven B. Sample and top USC trustees made up the board."
In 2001, the Ramos asked Lee, who holds a doctorate in physics with a minor in economics from Caltech and is a Certified Public Accountant, to take over as chair of the Board of Overseers.
