| There are
many ways to make an outright gift to the Keck School of Medicine.
Cash
Gift »
A cash gift is accomplished by writing a check to "Keck
School of Medicine of USC," or to "Norris Comprehensive
Cancer Center." Funds can also be sent using a "wire
transfer." This can be accomplished through your bank
or brokerage firm. With a wire transfer, the donor must notify
someone at the Keck School of Medicine that the transfer has
been, or is going to be made. This will ensure that the gift
will be properly handled for investment purposes as quickly
as possible.
Securities
»
Gifts of securities, land, or buildings are donated through
a more complex process. Securities require the sending of
the actual certificates to the above address. Do NOT sign
or endorse the certificates. In a separate mailing to the
above address, send a signed and signature guaranteed stock
power for each certificate. The signature guarantee can be
obtained from your bank or broker. If the securities are held
by your bank or broker, they can be transferred to the University
of Southern California. Please contact the above address for
instructions.
Real
Estate »
Land or Buildings can be gifted with a deed. However, for
each, there needs to be an inspection of the property by USC
prior to the deed's acceptance by the University. Additionally,
the donor will be responsible for obtaining and paying for
a valid appraisal for tax purposes.
Art
& Collections »
Art, Collections, and other personal property may be donated,
but the University must approve the gift prior to the transfer.
A valid appraisal must be obtained and paid for by the donor
for tax purposes. For further information about these issues,
refer to Assets to Give.
