Every effort has been made to ensure that your involvement with psychological services at the Eric Cohen Student Health Center is a valuable experience. We recognize that it is sometimes difficult to acknowledge a need for help and we support your doing so by trying to make accessing the services available to you as easy and stress-free as possible. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with our program.
We take confidentiality very seriously. One of the most important aspects of the relationship between a therapist and a patient is that it is a confidential relationship. Confidentiality and privacy is ensured for all services offered by our Eric Cohen psychologists and psychiatrist. In addition to not releasing your mental health and wellness information without your documented permission, we take the added step of limiting routine access to your health record without your permission, with the exception of medications that are being prescribed by any provider at the Eric Cohen Student Health Center.
The clinical psychology staff of the Eric Cohen Student Health Center is available for short term consultation for all registered students under the Student Health Center Fee. For appointments with an outside provider, please refer to the Insurance section below.
Students who are covered by the USC Student Health Insurance Plan may receive up to 12 counseling sessions per academic school year with an outside provider. Under this plan, students are required to pay a 10% co-pay up to $30.00 for each session. If you have a different insurance plan, please determine your benefits for "outpatient psychotherapy" with your insurance carrier benefit representative.
In an attempt to become environmentally friendly and fully integrate our electronic medical record, we have implemented our surveys to be filled out on your MySHR via iPads in the waiting room.
All of our patients, both counseling and medical, will have the opportunity to fill out surveys on the iPad. Although all of our surveys are not electronic at this moment, we hope to reduce the amount of paper surveys as soon as possible.
Most of these surveys are not mandatory but are helpful to the physicians. If you feel uncomfortable taking these surveys on the iPad, you can either fill them out on your smart phone once you have been checked in, request to take your survey in the exam room [medical visits], or inform one of the medical assistants that you would prefer not to take the survey.
Please remember these surveys are confidential and are in place to help our medical staff better serve you.
There is a registered nurse and a physician on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please call (323) 442-5631 and ask for the nurse on call.
Medications/Psychiatry. Should medications or psychiatric intervention be indicated, the therapist will refer students to the Psychiatrist on staff, or refer you to an outside Psychiatrist through the network in the student's insurance plan.
Our Counseling Center staff are as follows:
Brinell A. Slocumb, PsyD
Bradley Meier, PhD
