Donna Shoupe, M.D.
Gynecology
Originally from Findlay, Ohio, Dr. Shoupe received a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology then moved on to medical school where she received her degree from the Ohio State University School of Medicine. Dr. Shoupe completed residency and fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility with the Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center. Among many reasons she loves working at the Eric Cohen Student Health Center, Dr. Shoupe particularly enjoys her job because she is able to work with well-informed and intelligent students. With drive that stems from observing her father, an Internist and her uncle, a Neurosurgeon, Dr. Shoupe has served as a Professor for 30 years and still finds time for her hobbies, sports and tree growing in Oregon. In fact, she has planted over 2,000 trees in Oregon; the majority includes the Ponderosa Pine. In addition to her environmental contributions, Dr. Shoupe has published three books based on contraception and has served as the Co-Principal Investigator for a National Institute of Health study on estrogen therapy and heart disease for five years, of which she will continue for two more years. In the near future, Dr. Shoupe hopes to clarify the role of estrogen in atherosclerosis and advance the use of contraceptive technology.
Melissa Grier, M.D.
Gynecology
Dr. Grier is a native Michigander who received her undergraduate degree in 1997 from Andrews University, a small school in Michigan.
She then went on to medical school at the University of Michigan Medical School, and graduated in 2001. Her medical school experience provided a wide variety of exposure to many interesting fields of medicine. It was in medical school that Dr. Grier decided to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynecology. It was evident to her that women's health was an area in need of providers devoted to promoting the special needs of women.
Dedicated to pursuing such a career, she relocated to Los Angeles in 2001. Dr. Grier then received training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Keck School of Medicine. Her experience as a resident was very fulfilling and she had the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of so many women in need. Through this experience she learned the importance of implementing compassion with good clinical judgment under the strain of a busy county hospital.
In 2005 Dr. Grier began private practice in Pasadena, California, using her past experiences to provide service to the women of that community. Her continued objective is to provide women's health services in the community. Her special interests include: female pelvic floor dysfunction, urinary incontinence evaluation and treatment, interstitial cystitis, basic infertility work up and treatment (including ovulation induction and intrauterine insemination), all aspects of dysfunctional uterine bleeding (including hydrosonography, diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy), family planning and contraception, menopausal symptoms and the treatment of menopausal women, cervical dysplasia, and the care of high risk pregnancies. Dr. Grier's special surgical interests include minimally invasive surgery via laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. Underscoring this objective is the ideal of practicing evidence-based medicine and compassion with a foundation in the ethical ideals of medical practice.
Ellis J. Seligman, M.D.

In addition, Dr. Seligman was appointed to the Admissions Committee for the USC School of Medicine and worked as an interviewer for applicants from 1978 to 1993. He has also provided military service with the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps as a Consultant in Dermatology. His current medical practice includes the Eric Cohen Student Health Center and Dr. Seligman practiced for 43 years until January 1, 2011 with the Facey Medical Group, formerly known as Alhambra Medical Clinic. Dr. Seligman is also actively involved in many society memberships, including the American Academy of Dermatology, Pacific Dermatological Association, served as president of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Dermatological Society from 1992-1993, and the Congress of California Dermatological Societies, in which he served as Director for several years. Katy Sullivan
Program Manager: Health Promotion, Patient Experience, and Accreditation
Katy, an Allentown PA native, moved to California where she worked for The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation before joining the Keck Medical Center of USC and the Eric Cohen Student Health Center 3.5 years ago. She obtained a Master of Science in Global Medicine from Keck School of Medicine at USC and a Six Sigma Green Belt from USC Viterbri School of Engineering.
She loves working with the patients to ensure that their visits are excellent from the moment they walk in the door to the moment they leave. Working to build the Eric Cohen Student Health Center's health promotion program has also been a great experience. She feels that our students have special needs, particular to this campus and they deserve a program tailored to those needs.
Katy started working for USC Care Medical Group under the Director of Clinical Operations, Char Ryan, while in the USC Post-Bacc Pre-Med Program. Char Ryan has had the most impact on her career. She trusted Katy to take on more and more responsibilities, as well as increase her education in industrial engineering and business to become a stronger asset to USC Care. With Char's encouragement and willingness to accommodate Katy's class and work schedule, she will be able to finish a master of science at Keck at the end of spring, 2012.
Leading the project to get the Eric Cohen Student Health Center Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) accredited is one of Katy's greatest contributions. It was a three year project, but we passed with flying colors and the ECSHC is now recognized as a leader in quality health care. In addition, Katy is determined to continuing to build the ECSHC Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Program. She hopes to make it a comprehensive, campus-wide program, and is working with the new HSC Fitness Center and the Occupational Therapy Faculty Practice to present a strong program with importance to our students.
During her free time, Katy enjoys singing, which was one of her favorite pastimes in college. One interesting fact that many people do not know is Katy is adopted, and plans to adopt children in the future as well!
