Eric Cohen received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal and went on to do his residency at Montreal General Hospital. During his residency he became interested in adolescent and young adult medicine. Cohen's original desire was to do an elective at Boston Children's Hospital. However, one of his mentors directed him to USC to study under Dr. Richard MacKenzie, Director of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. MacKenzie recognized an incredible gift and passion for teaching in Cohen and wanted him to co-lead an ICM group. Before he accepted the position, Cohen had to face his own insecurities related to teaching medical students and residents who he thought knew more than he did. Dr. Cohen is a valuable example of the success that is possible when we choose to stop listening to our inner critic and believe in our abilities.
