Admission

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE THORNTON ADMISSION PROCESS

Students applying for admission to fall 2008, please carefully note the following:

  1. December 1 is the application deadline for ALL applicants (Freshman, Transfer, and Graduate) applying to Thornton programs. This is NOT a postmark deadline. All required materials must be received by this date in order to be given full consideration.
  2. Some Thornton programs will require applicants to submit a recording to be pre-screened by the faculty. Please see the Application Requirements section of this Web site for specific requirements for these recordings. Applicants to programs requiring this pre-screen might not be invited to perform a live audition based on the results of the pre-screen.
  3. IMPORTANT MAILING INSTRUCTIONS- Send all music-specific application requirements in one complete package directly to the Thornton Admission Office. Please address the envelope as follows:

    ______________ Admission Review *
    USC Thornton School of Music
    Office of Admission
    University Park - UUC 218
    Los Angeles, CA 90089-2991

    * To ensure proper and timely processing of your application materials, please write the name of the program (Degree and Major) for which you are applying in the blank space of the address block above. If you are applying to a program which requires an audition, be sure to indicate the instrument and whether it is jazz or classical.

If you are applying for multiple programs, the required materials for each program must be mailed to the Thornton Admission office in separate envelopes. This applies to all required materials, including pre-screen recordings for performance programs and scores for the composition and film scoring programs.

If these mailing instructions are not followed properly, it cannot be guaranteed that your application materials will be received by the appropriate faculty in time for review.
