Gainful Employment Disclosures
The United States Department of Education requires that not-for-profit educational institutions disclose certain types of information regarding programs that do not lead to a degree. These federal regulations are designed to provide information about programs leading to gainful employment in a recognized occupation.
In the USC Thornton School of Music, three programs are subject to these federal requirements: (1) the Graduate Certificate program in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television; (2) the Graduate Certificate program in Performance; and (3) the Artist Diploma program. The tables below provide the required information disclosures. A description of the various types of information contained in these tables is provided in the legend at the bottom of the page.

1. SOC Code – Allows students to search the occupational profile for which the certificate/diploma program prepares them on the Occupational Information Network (O*NET) (www.onetonline.org/crosswalk/). The US Department of Labor has identified the O*NET as a primary source of occupational information. O*NET provides comprehensive occupational descriptions and data for use by job seekers. O*NET provides a framework that identifies the most important types of information about work based on theory, experiment and observation. In addition, O*NET allows occupational information to be applied across jobs, sectors, industries, and within occupations.
2. CIP Code – Links to additional occupational profiles on O*NET (www.onetonline.org/crosswalk)
3. Completion Rate – Number of students who completed the program within normal time. The Graduate Certificate in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television is a one-year program. The Graduate Certificate in Performance and the Artist Diploma program are two-year programs.
4. Program Costs – Includes estimated tuition, fees, books/supplies, room/board, personal expenses, and transportation. A break-down of these estimated expenses by program is provided below.
