Minors (current USC students only)
To be eligible to apply for a minor in music, students must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate at USC (Incoming undergrads are welcome to apply once they are enrolled in their first semester).

- For Admission to the 2013 Spring Semester: November 1, 2012
- For Admission to the 2013 Fall Semester: April 1, 2013
How to Apply:
In addition to any entrance requirements listed in the following program descriptions, applicants must complete the Online Application for a Minor in Music.
Minor in Jazz Studies
In addition to the Application for a Minor in Music (see above), a performance audition is required of applicants to this program. Applicants are asked to play all major scales in eighth notes at a tempo of mm120=quarter note. Applicants may also be evaluated on reading music and transcribing simple solos. For further details about this minor, please contact Professor John Thomas at johnthom@usc.edu. The minor is not available to B.M. jazz studies majors.
Minor in Music Industry
In addition to the Application for a Minor in Music (see above), students admitted to this minor will be expected to be in good academic standing with the University and maintain that standing. The minor is not available to Music Industry majors.
Minor in Music Recording
In addition to the
Application for a Minor in Music (see above), acceptance into the program generally requires successful completion of MUIN 275A or MUIN 277x to assure that the student has sufficient musical background and skill. The minor is not available to Music Industry majors.
Minor in Musical Studies
In addition to the
Application for a Minor in Music (see above), a performance audition is required of applicants to this program. Two selections from the standard repertoire of their primary instrument or voice should be
prepared for the audition. To schedule an audition or for further information, contact the appropriate music department (e.g. pianists contact the department of keyboard studies, flutists contact the
department of winds and percussion, etc.). The minor is not available to music majors.
Minor in Musical Theatre
In addition to the
Application for a Minor in Music (see above), a performance audition is required of applicants to this program. Two selections from the standard musical theatre repertoire should be prepared for the audition. One selection should be a ballad and the other a more up-tempo piece. To schedule an audition or for further information, contact the department of vocal arts at (213) 740-7704. An audition in theatre is not required. The minor is open to all majors.
Minor in Popular Music Studies
In addition to the Application for a Minor in Music (see above), students must be in good academic standing to be admitted to this minor. No previous musical experience is required.
Minor in Songwriting
In addition to the Application for a Minor in Music (see above), admission to this minor requires enrollment in MUSC-255 (Songwriting I) and an evaluation by the songwriting faculty.
