Key Checkout

Jennifer Ching, Office Manager

ALL keys checked-out on a key contract during the 2011-2012 Academic Year are due back to the Music Operations Office (BMH-101) on or before May 9, 2012. Late fees will apply for keys returned after that deadline.

How to Request a Key:
All requests for semester-long, academic-year-long, summer, or faculty/staff key checkout must be submitted in writing by completing the Key Request Form, located in BMH 101. This document will also serve as a contract agreement between the keyholder and Music Operations. Key requests should be submitted to the Office Manager. All student key checkouts must be approved in writing by the appropriate Thornton faculty or staff member either by signature directly on the form or by direct email approval to the Office Manager. Key-request processing can take up 2 business days if keys are in stock and 1-2 weeks if keys need to be ordered from the University Lock Shop. Upon receipt of a notification email, keys must be picked up from BMH 101 within one week. Presentation of a valid USC ID with Music Operations registration sticker will be required at the time of pick-up.

Late Key Return:
Failure to return the key on time will result in a $5 per day fine up to 10 days. After 10 days, the key will be treated as a lost key (see Lost Keys). Generally speaking, keys are due as follows:

Academic-year-long key checkout: Last day of spring semester finals
Semester-long key checkout: Last day of finals for that semester
Summer key checkout: Last business day before start of fall classes

Lost Keys:
Loss of a key will result in a $50 per lost key fine, plus up to and including the additional cost of re-keying any and all doors affected, up to and including re-keying of entire building.
