VEMS- Online Room Reservation System
Thornton music majors and minors may use VEMS to reserve Thornton spaces. To view and request space (except Newman) for any purpose including rehearsals, lessons, review sessions, practice, and meetings, the requestor must be properly registered with Music Operations and visit: VEMS Online Scheduling System. Please understand by reserving a room, you are taking full responsibility for you and your guests and the condition of the space during your reservation. Please contact the Scheduling Manager with VEMS login/password questions.
Reserving Private Teaching Space:
Thornton instructors and teaching assistants may reserve space, based on availability, to teach their registered private students. Reservations may be made for a single session or for the duration of the semester. Reservations should not be made for practicing or for teaching non-registered students. To request teaching space visit: VEMS Online Scheduling System. Please contact the Scheduling Manager with VEMS login/password questions.

Thornton facilities may be requested for rental as audition spaces; please submit requests via the Audition Room Request Form. Auditions may be scheduled on weekends between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. In most cases, facilities are unavailable on weekdays.
The audition rate is $25 per hour, with a four-hour minimum. This fee includes use of an audition room and up to two (2) warm-up spaces, availability permitting (please note that warm-up spaces are not always available in the same building as the audition room). Visiting groups are required to run all aspects of their auditions.
Venues for Performances, Events, & Recordings:
The Thornton School of Music owns and operates three (3) performances spaces, which are primarily for the use of the Thornton community to present degree-required student recitals, faculty recitals, and Thornton ensemble performances.
The venues are:
- Newman Recital Hall (seats 280)
- MacDonald Recital Hall (seats 90)
- Simon Ramo Recital Hall (Formally Booth 100) (seats 90)
In a typical semester, Thornton's busy performance calendar allows for few, if any, non-Thornton events in our performance spaces. However, you may submit non-Thornton requests via the Performance Room Request Form.
Please note the following:
- Thornton performance spaces are designed for musical performances in a concert setting. Due to safety and liability issues, theatrical and dance performances are not permitted.
- All outside events are required to provide proof of insurance upon confirmation of their reservation.
- For rental rate and services information, please refer to the Services Rate Card.
Clinicians must be current Thornton faculty members and the faculty member will act as the primary contact. Because Music Operations is unable to provide staffing support for clinics, faculty clinicians are expected to be liaisons for these events including help with set-up or use of Thornton instruments (ie. percussion). Music Operations will ensure that the rooms have the proper number or chairs, stands, and pianos; however, no specific set-up service is available. Clinics should try to be scheduled on weekends between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, as facilities are usually unavailable on weekdays. Please submit requests via the Clinic Room Request Form.
USC Student Film Shoots:
Only requests from currently enrolled USC School of Cinematic Arts students will be considered. After reviewing the student film general information section, you will be able to submit your Student Film Shoot Request.
If your request is approved, you will be required to complete a USC School of Cinema on-campus location release form, which must be signed by the Thornton Scheduling Manager.
