Biography
David Howard, adjunct associate professor, winds and percussion, has been a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 1981. Prior to that he served as principal clarinet of both the New Haven and New Jersey symphonies. Mr. Howard performs frequently with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Chamber Music Society and the Philharmonic New Music Group. With philharmonic pianist Zita Carno, he released the recording,
Capriccio: Mid-Century Music for Clarinet on Centaur Records. In concerts of the Philharmonic New Music Group in New York and Los Angeles, he was the featured bass clarinet soloist in Iannis Xenakis'
Echange, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. He appears regularly as a lecturer on the Los Angeles Philharmonic's "Upbeat Live" series and participated as a speaker during the Philharmonic's "Around Ligeti" concerts, a celebration of the composer's 75th birthday.
