Biography
James Rötter, adjunct assistant professor, winds and percussion, has enjoyed a multifaceted international career for more than 20 years, including performances as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral saxophonist throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Mexico and South America. As the principal on-call saxophonist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, he has concertized, toured and recorded with many of the world's leading conductors. He is a frequent performer with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Pacific, Pasadena, Long Beach, Glendale and Santa Barbara Symphony orchestras. In addition, he has performed as a guest artist with the Rotterdam, St. Petersburg and Montreal Symphony orchestras, as well as the Opera Orchestra of Lyon on their American tours, the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, and with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on one domestic and three international tours. Mr. Rötter is a founding member of the internationally acclaimed Harvey Pittel Saxophone Quartet, with which he toured as the alto saxophonist from 1978 to 1990. Mr. Rötter has performed on many of the world's most prestigious concert series and music festivals, including the Salzburg, Ojai and Tanglewood festivals, the San Antonio Festival of the Arts, the Promenade Concert Series in London's Royal Albert Hall and the International Music Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland.
