Biography
Lucina Agbabian Hubbard explores the inventory and the significance of the varied musical expressions in the Armenian culture. Her insights are accessible to those who live both within and outside the cultural milieu of the Armenian Diaspora.Having assimilated the musical traditions in the Armenian communities of Cyprus, the Middle East and The United States, she proceeded to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA World Arts and Cultures Department, with a focus on music (1983). She did extensive fieldwork and archival research in Soviet and Independent Republics of Armenia (1985, 1993), and in the Mkhitarist Monastic Libraries of Venice and Vienna.
Her comprehensive collection of scholarly volumes on Armenian Music history, literature and scores, and her discography of folk, sacred, popular, and concert music is generated from medieval centuries to the present. This collection constitutes a most useful reference source for the study and appreciation of Armenian music.
Lucina Agbabian Hubbard is a frequent presenter of talks and live music at seminars, workshops and concerts on a wide range of topics related to the Armenian musical culture. She has been on the musicology faculty of the USC Thornton School of Music since 1988.
