Biography
Peter Webster is a music education and music technology specialist, also teaching in the music cognition and music technology programs and supervising student teachers. Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, Webster is the author of Measures of Creative Thinking in Music, an exploratory tool for assessing music thinking using quasi-improvisational tasks, and coauthor of the book and DVD Experiencing Music Technology (Cengage/Schirmer, 2008). He is the co-editor of the MENC Handbook of Research on Music Learning (Oxford, 2011). He has also contributed over 80 book chapters and articles on technology, music cognition, and children's creative thinking in music and its assessment. Webster has been heard as a presenter at many state, national, and international meetings and is a frequent keynote speaker. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Research in Music Education, Journal for Technology in Music Learning, International Journal of Education in the Arts, Research Studies in Music Education, and the Asia-Pacific Journal for Arts Education.Webster will remain at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music through the 2012-2013 school year and join the faculty at the Thornton School in the Fall 2013.
