One of the most outstanding among Chinese-American violinists, Suli Xue enjoys an active career on today’s international music stages. A member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, a professor of violin at the USC Thornton School of Music, the artistic adviser of the YMF Debut Orchestra and the former concertmaster of the Central Philharmonic Orchestra of China, Suli Xue has earned acclaim around the world for his unique artistry.

Born into a musical family in Harbin, China, Suli Xue started his studies with his father, composer and professor of violin Chengqian Xue. In 1978, Suli Xue was accepted by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, to study violin with Lixun Dou as well as the vice president of the school,  Shuzhen Tan. His career advanced rapidly, and he was named the youngest concertmaster of the Central Philharmonic Orchestra in 1984. Suli Xue came to the United States in 1986 to study at the USC Thornton School of Music with the internationally renowned exemplar of the violin, Alice Schoenfeld. In the ensuing years, he participated in such major North American festivals as the Tanglewood Music Center Festival, the Grand Teton Music Festival and the Centre d’Arts Orford.

In 1990, Suli Xue joined the San Diego Symphony, and two years later he became a member of the violin section of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Later in the decade, he was a founding member of the Pacific Harmony String Quartet. The quartet tours widely, and their CD, The Melodies of the Far East, has received wide attention in the United States. In 2006, Suli Xue appeared as a featured soloist on the China Central Television national broadcast, the “Concert Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Shostakovich.” He performed the Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor with the China National Symphony Orchestra in Beijing Concert Hall, to great acclaim.
