Biography
Having earned her DMA from the USC Thornton School, Dr. Weihui Mao is considered one of the most well-rounded and promising young pianists of her generation. Having made her debut with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Japanese leading conductor Maestro Yoshikzau Fukumura at age 14, Dr. Mao has since then concertized throughout U.S., Europe and Asia.
As a top prize winner of many international piano competitions, including the 1990 Junior Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the 1995 APPTA International Recording Competition, Weihui has had the opportunity to perform with the Utah Symphony Orchestra, Utah Philharmonic, Redland Symphony Orchestra, Intermountain Chamber Orchestra, Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, Pan-Asia Festial Orchestra, Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Henan Symphony Orchestra, Guangxi Symphony Orchestra and other major orchestras in China. Dr. Mao has also appeared on concert stages in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Richmond, Denver, Salt Lake City, London, Geneva, Frankfurt, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Glasgow, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Ming City, Beijing, Shanghai, Goungzhou, Shenzhen, Dalian, Shenyang, Harbin, Nanning and Qingdao, among others.
Dr. Mao gives annual master-classes and plays solo recitals in Shanghai and Shenyang and at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music. She is a visiting professor at Dalian University, Yantai University and Shenyang Normal University in China.
In 1999, Dr. Mao joined the team of the prestigious Steinway Artists. In 2005, she performed on the exquisite Peace Piano in Shenzhen, China, with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the grand opening of the city's first Steinway Showroom.
