Biography

Mina Yang received a B.A. in art history from Brown University, a master's degree in piano performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a Ph.D. in musicology from Yale University with a dissertation that examined the various musical subcultures in California between 1925-1945. Her forthcoming book entitled California Polyphony: Ethnic Voices, Musical Crossroads will be published by the University of Illinois Press in April of 2008. Her research interests include American and Pacific Rim music; popular culture and mass media; and politics, identity and music.
