The Titus Family Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Economics & Policy is dedicated to the development and advancement of pharmacists and faculty who can provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients, meeting societal expectations for safe and effective drug therapy through applied knowledge and discovery. The Department is also dedicated to the development of researchers who study ways to improve patient outcomes and apply economic principles to healthcare evaluation, ultimately impacting policy.

The mission of the Titus Family Department is threefold:

Education

  • Prepare Doctor of Pharmacy students for future practice through the development of communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, utilizing a strong foundation in the basic sciences, and the ability to integrate and apply clinical and pharmaceutical sciences to the care of patients.
  • Provide advanced training to practitioners through postgraduate residency programs and develop clinical scientists through postgraduate fellowship programs.
  • Enrich the drug therapy knowledge of health care practitioners and the public through a variety of educational interventions and settings.
  • Equip M.S. and Ph.D. candidates to educate students, patients, clinicians and policy makers regarding the value of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy services.

Patient Care

  • Provide patient care activities in settings that support faculty teaching and research programs.
  • Promote excellence in pharmacotherapy through clinical activities assuring the safety, therapeutic efficacy and cost effectiveness of drug therapy, via the application of pharmaceutical care and evidence-based medicine principles.
  • Develop and support practice sites where students will provide clinical services with a pharmacist preceptor in an environment that recognizes the pharmacist's role in disease management within an integrated, multidisciplinary health care system.

Research

  • Promote the development and support of independent scholars through research activities pursuing advances in pharmacotherapy, pharmacodynamics, pharmacoeconomics, practice, educational methods and pharmacogenomics.
