Financial Aid Deadlines

It is vitally important, when you apply for financial aid, that you meet all deadlines and that you carefully follow instructions. Refer to the following calendar for deadlines and procedural guidelines.

Note: Failure to meet financial aid deadlines may result in the loss of some or all financial aid awards. We recommend that you apply early rather than wait for the deadline to submit the required documentation.

Failure to read or follow instructions may also result in the loss of financial aid awards. Please read and follow the instructions carefully. If you have questions after reading the appropriate material, please call the Office of Admission and Student Affairs at (323) 442-1466 or send e-mail to pharmfa@usc.edu

January 2008

You should complete the 2008-2009 FAFSA application prior to February 22nd in order for it to be received by the deadline (12:00 midnight, EST, March 2). The FAFSA can be completed online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you or your parents have not filed your 2007 income tax returns, complete the FAFSA using your best estimates of income.

On your FAFSA in Section H, "Releases and Signatures," fill in USC's Title IV code, name and address as follows:

001328 University of Southern California
University Park, Los Angeles CA

(The Title IV code for the School of Pharmacy is the same as the code for a USC undergraduate at the University Park Campus.)

Note: If you applied for federal financial aid during the 2007-2008 academic year, you must complete a 2008-2009 Renewal FAFSA. You may use a renewal FAFSA, a new FAFSA application, or connect through the Web to complete the FAFSA at: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Web site provides a customer service number: (800) 433-3243.

To be considered for all available sources of financial aid funding at the School of Pharmacy, you should complete the parent and student section on the FAFSA. Some financial aid programs REQUIRE parents' information in addition to copies of the parents' tax returns even if the student is considered independent.

Parents and students should make plans to file their 2007 federal income tax returns prior to the School's April 15 financial aid deadline. Our financial aid office must review SIGNED copies of the tax returns or statement of non-filing prior to determining a student's financial need and financial aid package.

February 22, 2008 (postmark)

Students must file the FAFSA by this date to be considered for PRIORITY status for financial aid awards. This is the recommended mailing date so that the information will be received at the Federal Processor by the March 2nd deadline. The student must meet all other financial aid deadlines to maintain priority status for financial aid awards.

The USC Supplemental Financial Aid Form for graduate students is due on February 22, 2008. This document must be turned in to the Office of Admission and Student Affairs.

February 2008

Four to six weeks after filing your FAFSA you should receive a Student Aid Report from the Federal Processor. Check the accuracy of all information on the Student Aid Report. If all information is correct, keep for your records. If you need to make corrections, please make the changes and return the SAR to the Federal Processor.

The Federal Processor must receive your FAFSA information by March 2, 2008. The FAFSA or renewal FAFSA must be received by the Federal Processor by this date to be considered on time for financial aid processing.

If you wish to be considered for additional funds other than the Stafford loan, you must submit the Parent Information Form and Parent Tax Returns or non-filing forms. It can be downloaded from the Application Materials section.

April 14, 2008 (postmark)

The USC School of Pharmacy Office of Admission and Student Affairs must have received SIGNED copies of the students' and parents' 2007 federal income tax forms (IRS 1040s) with W2s and ALL schedules or statement(s) or non-filing forms if no tax form was filed. Students who wish to be considered for the Health Professions Student Loan must submit ALL parent documentation.

Nonfiling statements can also be downloaded from the Application Materials section.
