The USC School of Pharmacy Residency Program launched in 1970. Over the next few years, USC recognized the rapid development of the clinical pharmacy practice and expanded its residency program to include specialized training in:
- Acute care medicine
- Ambulatory care
- Emergency medicine/critical care
- Geriatrics
- Pediatrics
- Psychiatric pharmacy
The first group of clinical pharmacy residents received training at the LAC+USC Medical Center. Other training sites at health care facilities in Los Angeles County were later added, including:
- Edward R. Roybal Comprehensive Health Center
- USC University Hospital
- USC/Norris Cancer Hospital and Research Institute
