This program trains residents in acute care pharmacy practice and teaching, while increasing their knowledge through direct patient exposure. Residents receive extensive clinical experience in primary, secondary and/or tertiary care settings. In their various rotations, residents refine their skills and develop expertise as drug therapy specialists through the provision of patient care services. The residents’ teaching skills are developed in both clinical and classroom settings. Elective and assigned projects enable residents to develop administrative, analytical and research skills.

Teaching
Residents play a highly visible and crucial role in the Pharm.D. program.Students view residents as highly approachable role models. Residents meet with third year students at weekly Therapeutics Modules discussion groups and act as co-preceptors for Level IV Pharm.D. candidates in their clinical clerkships. Through their interaction with students and their participation in educator-training seminars, residents develop the skills necessary to be "Clinician Educators."
Research
Research classes and seminars are provided to residents. During the year, residents are required to:
- Complete a residency project
- Present the project’s findings at the Western States Conference for Pharmacy Residents, Fellows and Preceptors
- Submit a manuscript for publication prior to the end of the residency
