Can planners be good developers? Can developers be good planners?
Who is really planning our cities? Where do planning and development overlap and conflict?

Developers and planners are sometimes at odds with another; however the two disciplines have a symbiotic relationship and each deserves further understanding of the other. Although developers and planners are often divided by their seemingly conflicting goals and differences between the public and private sectors, cooperation
can facilitate better places.

Katherine Perez, VP of Development at Forest City Development, one of the largest developers in the country, will discuss her experiences as a trained planner cum developer. Her extensive prior experience as a transportation planner in the public sector provides her with a unique perspective of private sector development and how planners can play a more effective role in development.
